We are delighted to officially welcome Mackenzie to the team.
Mackenzie joined our Canada team in 2021 working at the Parliamentary estate in Ottawa but has recently relocated to our head office in Lincolnshire adding to our decorative and fine arts team with her experience working with paintings, frescos and architectural conservation.

Conservation and repair work was much needed for this grand 19th century wall painting that had a history of water ingress and inappropriate restoration. The painting sits above the chancel arch in 6the Grade II listed All Saints Church, Thelwall. The work followed two condition assessments and technical analysis and was undertaken in stages to allow complete carbonation of lime plaster repairs before any recreation of painted decoration could safely take place. Manchester Town Hall
Towards the end of 2018 Hirst Conservation were appointed specialist consultants to Conlon Construction Limited on behalf of Manchester City Council for a number of decorative packages to the investigative phases of the Our Town Hall project at the Grade I listed Manchester Town Hall.
The six-year long project saw the closing of the building in January 2018 to enable much needed repair and renewal works. The iconic Victorian building by Alfred Waterhouse is due to reopen in 2024 with plans still being formulated by project architects Purcell following the results of the investigative works.

It has been a busy year in the fine art conservation department. We have been dealing with several projects to include the restoration of paintings at Cheltenham College Chapel and undertaken in-situ condition surveys, studio assessments and various other works.

Just in time for the Christmas celebrations we completed a programme of conservation and restoration works to two wall paintings in the nave of the church of St John the Evangelist in Sharow, North Yorkshire for PPIY Architects and Walter West Builders. Read More

We were delighted to return Insole Court in January, and complete the stabilisation of some unusual large scale anaglypta wallpaper panels, which had previously suffered significantly from water damage, and in some areas had to be removed to allow for essential stabilisation and repairs to the ceiling, itself a combination of both lath and plaster and highly degraded hessian reinforced plaster panels.
