Hirst Conservation was established in 1986 by Elizabeth Hirst.
Elizabeth was trained by Professor Robert Baker and Mrs Eve Baker,
who were amongst the UK’s most eminent conservators of wall
paintings and limestone sculpture. Elizabeth is an accredited
conservator-restorer (PACR), and is actively involved in the
development of Hirst Conservation as both a practical conservator
and consultant. Hirst Conservation are on the Conservation Register.
Hirst Conservation provides a holistic approach to the building
envelope and associated surfaces. To achieve this aim, the company
structure includes a wide range of disciplines, including stone,
plaster, decorative finishes, wall paintings, materials analysis,
paint research and easel paintings conservation, achieved through
the employment of specialised and experienced conservators. Hirst
Conservation also undertake consultancy work and the overseeing of
project briefs. In
addition, Hirst Conservation Materials produces traditional and
bespoke paints.
This base of varied specialism allows the conservators to act on
informed treatment specifications formulated in conjunction with the
research and analysis team. This working relationship of research
and conservation serves to enforce the understanding and appropriate
treatment of the building envelope and associated elements.

Hirst Conservation Materials is a partner company to Hirst
Conservation, which specialises in the manufacture of traditional
building products, including limewash, lime putty,
lead oil paint and distemper. Products can be provided in large or
small quantities in traditional tones chosen from our colour chart, or
made bespoke. Hirst Conservation Materials are recommended by
English Heritage for the decoration of historic houses, and can be
ordered directly through our on-line shop or by fax or telephone.
