We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor/ project manager to strengthen our project delivery team and working with our senior Quantity Surveyor. This is a key role offering scope to shape the financial management of our conservation projects and support sustainable growth.
- Position: Quantity Surveyor/ Project Manager
Location: Lincolnshire (with national travel)
Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week), flexible/hybrid working considered
Salary: £40,000–£50,000, dependent on experienceAbout UsHirst Conservation is a well-established, multi-disciplinary practice with over 40 years of experience in the conservation of historic buildings, decorative surfaces and fine art. From our Lincolnshire base, we operate nationally and internationally across a wide range of heritage environments, from ecclesiastical buildings and monuments to historic interiors and museum collections. - The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial administration of conservation contracts, working closely with colleagues across disciplines to ensure projects are priced, delivered and reported on effectively. You will oversee valuations, manage change control and variations, and maintain accurate cost tracking from pre-contract through to final account.
This role requires a good understanding of contracts (particularly JCT), financial reporting and working within a heritage environment, where conservation ethics and attention to detail are paramount.
- Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit tender returns, including cost breakdowns and clarifications
- Produce interim valuations and payment applications in accordance with contract terms
- Prepare final accounts, ensuring clear supporting documentation
- Manage and report on project budgets and cost forecasts
- Monitor change control procedures and prepare variation assessments
- Support contract negotiations and ensure contractual compliance across projects
- Liaise with clients, consultants and internal teams.
- Track subcontractor costs and support procurement where required
- Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable experience and qualifications in quantity surveying, ideally within the heritage and conservation sector
- Sound knowledge of JCT contracts and payment mechanisms
- Strong financial reporting, cost control and forecasting skills
- Proven experience preparing and agreeing interim and final accounts
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard QS tools
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
- Desirable
- Experience working on listed buildings or with heritage clients
- Familiarity with public procurement processes
- Understanding of conservation principles and heritage constraints
- CSCS card (or willingness to obtain)
